The forum is hosted by Yahoo! where our group name is dalesfhs. You will need to set up a Yahoo! account, if you don't already have one, and then apply to join the forum. Please don't be put off by this; it's very simple and once it's done you will not only be able to discuss your family history queries with over 500 other members at once but also access the other resources on our private Yahoo! website which can't be seen by the general public.
Resources on the Yahoo! site include:
A searchable archive of members' emails since 2000.
Sheila's List - an index of members who will do lookups in their own genealogical resources
A photographic archive to which members can contribute
Useful local information for arranging research trips
A variety of local historical documents transcribed by members & the facility to upload any documents which you would like help in reading.
The forum is only accessible to members who have successfully applied to join. Each contribution is the copyright of the donating member. Information stored in the archive is often confidential and we expect members to treat what they find with respect and discretion. For all these reasons, as well as to prevent spam, we ask you to give a reason for joining when you apply to become a member. To join the Upper Dales Family History Group email forum
First step: Set up a Yahoo! account if you do not already have one. (If you do have one skip this section). IF YOU HAVE AN ACCOUNT WITH ANOTHER SERVER WHICH IS LINKED TO YAHOO i.e BTINTERNET or SKY, THIS WILL NOT WORK so still set up a Yahoo one Here is how you can do it in simple steps:
Wait for a reply. Please check your spam folder regularly in case your server tries to block unknown addresses.
The reply will give you a link to click on to validate your application. Do this.
You will then be taken to the Yahoo! webpage where you will be asked to include a short message with your reason for joining.
Please do include your Yahoo ID and your name (it is not always easy for us to work this out from your email address or ID!)
The first 3 steps should take no longer than about 10 minutes. There may be a delay after you have given us your details and reasons but it should normally be no more than 24 hours at the most. You will then receive a welcome email from one of the group moderators explaining how to begin using the forum. If you have any problems signing up please contact the Moderators.
